Fall tryout information
In an effort to make next week's sports tryouts run as smooth as possible, this message has information for all who plan to tryout for a fall sport or other activities at Reagan Middle School.
All students planning on trying out for an athletic team or activity needs to have a sports physical and a concussion training certificate on file with the Activities Coordinator, Mr. Bukva, before being able to participate in tryouts or other activities. A sports physical is different from a school entrance physical and the sports physical document can be found on any of the athletic teams' fusion pages. Please turn your sports physicals into Mr. Bukva or the main office as soon as possible.
The next face-to-face concussion trainings will be on Wednesday, September 3 at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the main gym at Reagan Middle School. Please be on time for the presentations which last about 40 minutes. After the presentations starts we do have to close the sessions to be sure that attendees receive all of the information. Face-to-face trainings are required for all 6th grade students and any other students new to PWCS. Students must attend the training with their parent or guardian. Any 7th and 8th grade students who have attended a face-to-face training in the past may complete the concussion training face-to-face or online at https://online-concussion.pwcs.edu/. Please try to complete the online training before next week. Last year so many athletes across the county logged on at the same time which caused people to be booted from the site and slow connection speeds. This will not be an excuse to not have the proper paperwork submitted before tryouts. This training also takes about 40 minutes for complete. After completion, please print the completion certificate and return it to Mr. Bukva. There will be face-to-face trainings offered before each athletic season begins. Students are only required to attend one training per year, not per season.
Tryouts for football, boys soccer, girls track, and volleyball will begin on Thursday, September 4. All students interested in trying out for these sports and have the necessary paperwork submitted to Mr. Bukva need to come to the main gym after school on Thursday. Tryouts will run from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day for a minimum of 3 days. Some sports do extend tryouts, but that information will be shared to those athletes. There will not be an activity bus for tryouts. Parents are asked to arrive promptly at 5:00 p.m. to pick up their students. Parents are also asked to pull into the parking lot and find a parking space. Cars lining Tanning House Place does cause a traffic jam and makes it difficult for cars to get in and out of the school. Please do not purchase new cleats or equipment for your students until after team selections have been made. These are competitive teams and not everyone will be selected for a team. Students are encouraged to tryout in whatever clothing or shoes they have.
Cheerleading practice and tryouts will take place on September 16, 18, and 19. A physical and concussion training are required for cheerleading. Dance team tryouts will take place during the week of September 22. A physical and concussion training are also required to participate on the dance team. For information on all other sports and activities, please visit those activities' fusion pages on the Reagan Middle School website.
If you have any questions regarding sports physicals, concussion trainings, tryouts, athletics, or activities; please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Bukva by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I hope this information helps us all have a great start to the 2014-2015 school year. I hope to see you all next week.
